SCS8 food technology laboratory – Enhancement of food production

The breeding of insects for food and feed purposes is increasingly widespread on the European continent and presents itself as an important food source, rich in proteins. Products deriving from insect breeding constitute an alternative to other sources of consolidated use with advantages in terms of sustainability. Their use, however, is bound by the current legislation that has to face these “Announcements” through horizontal regulations, non-specific and sometimes difficult to extend to such products. The objective of this intervention will be to provide an articulated overview of the legislation relating to insects in the food sector, feed and zootechnical.
